Jungle Pattern Reading
In this fun SMARTboard game, players find word ending patterns and sort accordingly, sending the monkeys to their correct homes. Similar to practicing “word families,” this exercise helps encourage chunking, and thus fluency as well as teach Hebrew grammar.
Beat the Clock
Beat the clock! Read these familiar 2 syllable words, but watch out for the tricksters! Practice combining intellectual and visual reading for fluency with accuracy. Encoding/illustrating activity included as well.
Waterwords Pattern Reading
In this fun SMARTboard game, players find word ending patterns and sort accordingly, helping the bees fill their hives. Similar to practicing “word families,” this exercise helps encourage chunking, and thus fluency as well as teach Hebrew grammar.
Pattern Reading (תי־ני)
This SMARTboard game is a second option for the “waterwords” game, for those who want a more daring theme with music and exciting special effects. Children like this one a lot! (In the game intro, I wrote “help fight the Yetzer Hara,” to channel its “energies.” Still, use your discretion as to the theme choice.)
Tehillim Time-Travelers
These Tehillim Time-Travelers contain 20 second exercises of “pattern words” from Tehillim. The repetitive rhyme and rhythm helps encourage fluency, while the bite size “10 word challenges” and scoring system helps motivate the child to “win the race”. Great for fluency practice of bigger words!
Eye Reading
In this 37 page file, the student has to read as they leap from word to word, but look carefully! The words may look the same but there is one different in each row. The repetitive pattern has the child pick up speed while the trick word demands constant focus on the details. With pages for each nekudah, there is lots of opportunity for practice. By the time your child is done he/she is sure to be an expert!
